Müller’s surprisingly readable standard work is often credited with reviving inter-war interest in Middle Eastern archeology and Egyptology …
Large octavo hardback, around six inches by more than 9.25 tall, is bound in its publisher's original decorated black cloth. Note markings, slight distress to back-strip protecting the (intact) spine. Titling and device to upper board all original gilt.
First edition published by Marshall Jones Company, Boston, in 1923. Provenance: Brentano’s, NY (from bookseller’s label to rear pastedown); free from further permanent inscription and markings to the text. Issue Point: copyright is correctly stated as 1918 [below].
Although interior condition is overall good, because this original letterpress book is old, it does display minor signs of use and age — such as the usual discolouration to old paper; small edge tears at preface pg + 131 [shown in photos, below] affect neither text nor image — consistent with a printed object of this vintage. All (xvi) preliminary pages + 447 pp main text (inc tissue-guarded photo frontis, 232 in-text illustrations, and notes + bibliography at rear) are complete and otherwise correct.
