We were approached in the 1990's
to produce some replica medals as won by some of our clients we asked for
some samples and this was one of them a gold/gilt over base metal replica
Olympic medal Athena the Greek God appeared on
coins that Alexander the Great issued during his own lifetime, and the
pair continued to be associated long after his death. This replica is based on
A particularly fine gold medal in the Fitzwilliam museum, probably dating
from 242 CE, shows the helmeted head of the goddess on one side, and Alexander
riding his horse Bucephalus in a lion hunt on the reverse. It seems to be historically accepted
that this “Gold” medal was from the Olympic games AD 242 its not completely Flat possible shape of original? It is on a 22" chain
How do we value this? Its really
worth what someone is prepared to pay for it but having seem similar examples
of other medal we think we have priced it correctly it is 3.3 cm high and 3 cm wide and weighs13 grams with the chain we have 2 other different medals available
on ebay and will do a deal for the 3 if anyone is interested
