Please see the quick guide below, to determine if you have a bad motor or switch.

This is a general guide and should be performed at your own risk. If you are not comfortable with electrical work, or if you have any doubts about your ability to safely bypass the switch, it is best to consult a professional electrician.

Before attempting to bypass the switch, make sure to unplug the shop-vac from the power source.

Always exercise caution and follow proper safety precautions when working with electrical equipment.

QUICK GUIDE to determine if the motor or switch is bad.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To isolate the switch as the cause of your shop-vac's malfunction, temporarily bypass the switch and directly connect the motor to a power source. This will allow you to determine if the problem lies with the switch or the motor itself.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to bypass the switch and test the motor:

1. Disconnect the shop-vac from the power source.

2. Locate the switch and carefully disconnect the wires from its terminals.

3. Connect the two wires that were previously connected to the switch to each other using a wire nut or electrical tape.

4. Plug the shop-vac back into the power source and turn on the switched outlet.

If the motor starts running when you turn on the switched outlet, then the switch is the likely culprit and needs to be replaced. If the motor doesn't run, then the problem is likely with the motor itself and it may need to be repaired or replaced.

WARNING:

PLEASE TAKE A PHOTO OF THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY BEFORE DISASSEMBLY FOR REFERENCE.

INCORRECT HOOKUP COULD DAMAGE YOUR MOTOR.
