~ 1920's Jockey & Horse Steel & Lead Balancing Toy~
The jockey is holding a whip and is seated firmly on the white horse as it prepares to jump. He is a splendid fellow with a long tail coat, helping to date the piece to the early 20th century.
The piece is of painted and cut sheet steel with a wire whip and lead counter weight.
The toy would be placed on a stand or edge on its rear legs.
The weight lets the toy swing causing the horse's head & tail together with the jockeys arms & head to rock backwards and forwards.
~ Dimensions ~
The toy has a height of 17.2 inches (43.5 cm), a length of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and a depth of 1 inch (2.5 cm). It weighs 1.06 kg.
~ Condition ~
The paint is fairly worn in some areas particularly on the right arm and the counterweight, but is mostly still present. The joints all move smoothly.
