This is an absolutely superb hand coloured engraving of Ilfracombe Towne & Harbour in Devonshire, England.. It dates from around 1830 and shows life being carried out from that date.. Many Tall ships can be seen going about their business in trade as well as fishing off shore.. Larger ships can be seen navigating the Bristol Channel bringing goods (and maybe slaves) from far flung places.. Houses and buildings can be seen that simply aren't there anymore.. It was, and is, a beautiful little commercial sea side town.. LUNDY can be made out on the horizon.

Pre photography graphic plates always amaze me with the amount of detail they contain.. T. Allom & J. Lowery were responsible for this magnificent art work.. Their skills became less valued with the advent of photography some years later!

The card border measures 10" x 8".. The actual art work is 6.5" x 4.5".
