Small table top tapestry from Italy for export to Egypt market after WWII. Hand woven -- probably Venice, harkens to the day of Renaissance trade.

Pictures don't do this hand woven textile justice. The colors and very vivid and organic, shinny like bird feathers, especially the blue.

Italian silk was once premier until the Chinese market entered Europe. This piece is a reminder of the once booming silk industry of Venice. After WWII only small pieces could be produced for the remaining exports. A very rare piece.

If you collect Venice art glass, especially glass with gold fleck, you might consider the inclusion of silk pieces in your collection as well.
