Description:

Morden ; Robert (1650 – 1703).Lancashire - the county palatine of Lancaster. Third impression.

Morden well know for his county maps of England.

Together with other county maps of the British Isles they were published for Gibson's edition of Camden's Britannia, 1722

They were the only large county maps of this period and went on to be reprinted in 1722, 1753 and 1772, long after Roberts death.

The 1722 edition is identified by a watermark of a horse within a circle. Unlike the map makers of the the 17thcentury Morden did not decorate his maps with vignette illustrations, shields and historical anecdotes.

This would be partly due to fashion but more reflective of cost.
