Die fünfte Ausgabe ist dem Büffel gewidmet. Das Motiv der Platinmünze zeigt eine detaillierte Nahaufnahme vom Kopf eines ausgewachsenen Büffels. Die Aufschriften "SOUTH AFRICA", "BIG FIVE 2023" und das südafrikanische Wappen sind ebenfalls Teil des Designs. Die Rückseite zeigt zwei Hälften eines Büffelkopfes. Platziert man zwei dieser Münzen nebeneinander, erhält man ein vollständiges Nahaufnahmeporträt eines Büffels. Wenn mehrere dieser Münzen nebeneinander gelegt werden, ist eine ganze Büffelherde zu sehen. Die Auflage der seltenen Big Five II. - Büffel Platinmünze ist weltweit auf nur 500 Exemplare limitiert.

Der Kaffern- oder Afrikanische Büffel (Syncerus caffer) ist ein typischer Grasfresser. Büffel leben in Herden von ein paar Dutzend bis Hunderten von Tieren und halten sich bevorzugt in sumpfigen Gebieten und beschatteten Graslandschaften in Wassernähe auf. Besonders charakteristisch sind die ausladenden, geschwungenen Hörner, die eine Spannweite von bis zu 1,50 m erreichen können. Die limitierte Big Five II. The motive of the platinum coin features the impressive portrait of a Buffalo. Also included in the design are the inscriptions "SOUTH AFRICA", "BIG FIVE 2023" and South Africa’s national coat of arms. The reverse shows two halves of a buffalo head. Placing two of these coins next to each other gives a full close-up portrait of a buffalo. When several of these coins are placed next to each other, an entire buffalo herd appears. The mintage of this rare Buffalo platinum proof coin is limited to only 500 pieces worldwide.

The Cape or African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a typical grazer. It lives in herds of a few dozen to hundreds of animals and prefers swampy areas and shaded grasslands near water. Particularly characteristic for the buffalo are its sweeping, curved horns, which can reach a span of up to 1.50 meters.
