~ Circa 1780-1800 Japanese Do Cuirass ~

Here we have a very nice Japanese Do cuirass with its protective skirt.

The set is made of lacquered iron on a fabric backing, the cuirass has been lacquered a glossy black whilst the inside has been backed with a sturdy canvas like material by adhering it to the plate.

Both the breast and back plate have a three sectioned articulated skirt attached by silk thread cord.

This breastplate would have articulated and has a hinge section on the left hand side of the breastplate, the hinge is lacking a retaining pin but it would be quite easy to replace.

~ Dimensions ~

The set is is 27 inches (68.5 cm) from shoulder band to the bottom of the protective skirt.

The breastplate is 13.5 inches (34cm) wide.

The breastplate is 10 inches (25.5 cm) deep.

The breastplate weighs 4.87 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The cuirass is in a fair condition for its age with a certain amount of damage and loss of the lacquer to the outside.

There is a small section where there appears to be paint drips or dye.

The fabric threads are in good condition, showing some fraying and age but in very good and sturdy condition for its age.

There is some damage to the fabric lining on the inside of the breastplate.
