On offer is a used single gang 48pF air dielectric variable capacitor of compact size. It was manufactured for the Air Ministry, probably in the 1930s / 1940s and has the RAF / Air Ministry Reference No. 10C/7904 engraved on the back plate.

It measures about 3.00 inches [including rotor shafts] x 3.00 inches wide [including the connection tags] x 2.85 inches from the base to allow for the rotor swing. The rotor is mounted with a baring at each end, and has a 0.25 inch diameter shaft which is about 0.50 inches long, and is replicated at the back to allow ganging.

It has a swing of 9.8pf to 47.7pF ~ see photographs 11 and 12 ~ measured on a Peak LCR40 component analyser ~ [for info] and is in working order.
