Photograph Notes: This little ionic columned portico is all that remains of a larger Summer House designed by the architect, James Gibbs for William Gore, one time owner of Tring Park and the Mansion. It is at one end of a straight ride that passes the other monument in the woods here [[[3050739]]]. Both of these structures date from the early C18th; unfortunately, according to a sign board near here, much of the Summer House was demolished comparatively recently when the new road up to Wigginton, which runs immediately behind it, was constructed. This replaced the old route, Oddy Hill, which had been rendered unusable by the construction of the A41 Tring bypass.
