Description

Reproduction of DOD Overdrive Preamp by JHS.

The JHS Overdrive Preamp is a faithful recreation of DOD's most beloved pedal, the very hard to find V1. Controls are simple
The Level control adjusts the output of the entire circuit, allowing you to cut or boost the signal. This version of the LEVEL control has been modified from #75's original wiring to allow for more volume. The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain within the overdrive circuit. Increasing the Gain will create more clipping by pushing the input to the overdrive section's op amp into harder clipping. The JHS Pedals Overdrive Preamp also adds a slider switch that was not included on the original DOD 250. While researching the #75 Big Box pedal, Josh acquired a second (Non Serial) early model Big Box unit with a completely different clipping arrangement. By switching this switch, you can try two sound variations: #75, which uses a germanium diode as the clipping diode, and Non Serial, which uses a silicon diode.

Overdrive Preamp began in 2019 when Josh Scott, owner of JHS Pedals, discovered a pedal that he thought didn't exist.
It was the DOD Overdrive Preamp, which preceded the "GrayBox" 250 pedal, which everyone, including Josh Scott himself, thought was an early model. It is housed in a large gray casing made of bent metal plates that resembles Electro-Harmonix(R) rather than DOD, and although the letters and DOD logo are different, it retains the charm and quirky feel of vintage DOD from the 1970s. It was an Overdrive Preamp without a 250 model number. A sticker on the backplate of the pedal read ``DOD Electronics Company,'' along with the home address of founder David Oreste Di Francesco and the number ``75.'' According to an interview with David himself a year later, Josh Scott discovered this to be his 75th DOD pedal, and one of the first 10 DOD Overdrive/Preamps (250) sold. I understand.
This stompbox represents the origins of America's Pedal and is to pedal historians what the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls was.
