Stunning early Victorian C1840 child's children's ash and elm wood low bow back Windsor arm chair.
North country, possibly from the Nottingham shire area.
Super colour with colour and shaping that can only be gained with age.
Lovely figured elm seat with the grain running side to side, later chairs the grain normally runs the other way. This is a great way to judge the age as quoted. There is a split to the grain below the left hand front spindle, this is where the wood in the seat has moved over the years and has been shown clearly in the pictures. Again character that can't be recreated. Minor split wood movements also from age and use. These are all stable and won't deteriorate further.
Has had wood worm in the past as you can see but this has been treated and is long gone.
In excellent condition for a little chair that's around 160 years old.
All the joints are 100% solid.
Stands 26 inches 66 cm tall at the back, the seat width is 15 inches 38.5 cm and the seat depth is 18 inches 46 cm.
Fabulous example and a great decorating piece.
All that's missing is a teddy bear.
