This vintage Royal Order of Jesters bolo tie with gold-tone metal billiken (1  1/2" tall) is imprinted "103" which tracks to the Boston Court in Plymouth, MA. This square decal (rare, we think, since we can find a comparable one) is from Artunian Jewelers in Los Angeles, makers of the authentic, early billikens. Items belonged to a family member, likely prior to 1983. The billiken has a red gemstone in his right eye, and a clear "diamond-like" stone in his belly. Left eye gemstone is missing. The sturdy, purple cord (approximately 33" long, providing a drop of about 16") has 1 1/4" brass (or comparable metal) tips. The decal is 3 1/4" x 3 1/8" and according to instructions on the back, can be applied to a window or hard surface. The decal is imprinted with the Artunian Jewelers name and address at 752 South Olive Street, Los Angeles, CA. Font and blue ink look appropriately old.

For those familiar with this secretive, fraternal organization, only for nominated/invited Shriners in good standing, you will appreciate that this family member never mentioned his affiliation. Apparently only 13 people are invited into each Court. Membership in ROJ is totally in keeping with this quirky, good-natured relative who would fully endorse the idea that "Mirth is King."
