These gaskets are made from 0.75mm Flexoid which is a plasticised gelatine impregnated material which is cellulose based.  Because of its ability to seal against petrol, oil and water at low cost, Flexoid is used extensively by leading British, European and US automotive manufacturers.  Maximum recommended service temperature is 120°C  and the material is often used for applications including; Carburettor; Fuel Pump; Oil Pump; Oil Filter; Side Cover; Timing Cover; Thermostat; Water Pump etc.  See spec. sheet.
