Based on the Dinosaurs Attack Topps 1988 trading card series. The cards tell the story of dinosaurs transported through time into the present day through a freak accident and wreaking havoc on Earth. The series is notable for its graphic violence and gore, intended to evoke memories of the successful Mars Attacks trading card series of 1962.
Story/Spoilers:
In issue #1, They're Back! 25 years after Topps' original Dinosaurs Attacks! trading cards took a bite out of candy counter sales, the original Eclipse graphic novel written by DA creator Gary Gerani returns, this time released in its entirety! With pencils by Herb (G.I. JOE) Trimpe and paintings by veteran illustrator Earl Norem, the entire story will be released as five comic books, with all the blood-curdling trimmings. So put world-conquering Martians aside for a bit and relish the time-tilted melodrama and wild humor of Dinosaurs Attack! -- the ultimate nightmare is now a reality from IDW!
Next in issue #2, The thrilling Dinosaurs Attack! saga continues as Washington D.C. is infested by a flock of pteranodons, with disbelieving politicians their terrified victims of choice. Meanwhile, stalwart scientists try to reverse their terrible mistake and send the prehistoric predators back into the Jurassic past, where they belong. But will an evil force beyond anyone's control stand in the way of these Earth-saving efforts?
Next in issue #3, Is anyone on Earth safe from the time-displaced, flesh-hungry dinosaurs, phased into modern-day reality by Prof. Thorne's particle beam experiment gone awry? Will a dream-like conversation with a sentient humanoid dinosaur spark a plan to end all this global destruction, or actually hasten humanity's demise?
Next in issue #4, Earth continues to take a savage beating from the ever-materializing flesh-hungry dinosaurs! Reporter Bob Gowen fearlessly defends his Ohio broadcasting station, even as psychiatrist Ambrose Woolly and scientist Helen Chambers combat the devil within Elias Thorne's soul-or is this preternatural threat much more than that, and much worse? Terror reigns as time begins to run out for the besieged, dino-imperiled human race... !
Finally, in issue #5, This is it... the final battle between humanity and the prehistoric invaders resurrected by Prof. Thorne! Will anchorman Bob Gowen save lives with his newscasts and ward off the attack of a monster lizard? Can the U.S. military stop an army of flesh-hungry behemoths hell bent on mass depopulation? And will a gun-wielding Helen Chambers make the right decision, even as a possibly mad Elias Thorne takes on a real or imagined dinosaur diety for the future of planet Earth? These and other thrilling questions are answered in the apocalyptic conclusion of Dinosaurs Attack!
