A large Gingerbread/Flat Figure from the Colima people of western Mexico. This sizeable Male example has a calm expression, with his arms across his chest. He has an applied, striated hairlock over the right shoulder, large ear spools, and an incised decorated loincloth. Scattered mineral deposits attest to the ancient age and authenticity. Nose and right ear ornament restored, otherwise solid and intact. Excellent size at 6 inches tall. From The Lands Beyond Gallery, New York City, which after several decades of dealing in Pre-Columbian material, is no longer in operation They purchased it from the Hollman collection, also in NYC, in 2011. Includes an unusual display stand, which helps display this large piece more prominently, but uses an adhesive to make the figure gently stick to it.

The Colima people flourished in ancient west Mexico along with the Nayarit and Jalisco people (collectively known as the Shaft Tomb Cultures) from around 200BC-250AD. All three produced incredible works of art, especially in the form of ceramic figures.
