1920’s Ohio Art Company - Framed Hanging Wall Art Landscape Painting Print 

11.5” x 9.5” x 0.5”

This early 20th century landscape painting print features mountains & a small lake / large pond with foliage and a tree. The print is stamped in the bottom left corner with red text inside a red circle (photo #3) “Ohio Art Co /Bryan, OH / 0810”. The print is framed with original glass in a beautifully crafted signature wood grained metal frame. Being numbered 0810, as well as the material and technique, suggests this frame was manufactured in the early to mid 1920’s. It is handcrafted and hangs by a strong and well preserved string attached to the back by a small black nail on each end. The frame comes in a very classy gold and black color, The dimensions are 11.5 inches x 9.5 inches x 0.5 inch.

Ohio Art Company is now a massively successful metal lithography company, yet has had many iterations over the years. Beginning in 1908 as a small frame company before switching later to toy manufacturing, producing the toy phenomenon, Eck-A-Sketch. By the 1920’s, the company’s founder had created and perfected the technique for creating wood grained metal frames, combining the strength and durability of a metal frame with the beautiful look and feel of a handcrafted wooden frame of that era. This new creation gave the company the capital to expand by purchasing the machinery needed for large scale manufacturing operations. This item is one of those early frames. Fun side note, Eck-A-Sketch appeared in both “Pixar’s Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2.” Both times the appearances increased sales by at least 20%, with the longer Toy Story 2 appearance saving the company from bankruptcy and allowed the company to transform once more into the wildly successful business it is today.
