This miniature portrait is a typical work of Italian miniaturist of early 19th century Vincenzo Castelli. It shows prominent resident of Piacenza and a courtier of Grand Duchess Maria-Louise of Parma (Archduchess of Austria), Conte Antonio Calciati Borghi (we have no reason to doubt the authenticity of his name, which is offered in the old legend on verso of the miniature; the only traceable error here is the date of 1802, which is absolutely unacceptable, for the sitter is dressed and hair-styled according to fashion of the 1830s and not the early 1800s!).
As our images nr.9-11 show, Conte Calciati was a Chamberlain of Marie-Louise and even a "Podesta" (Mayor) of Piacenza in Duchy of Parma and Piacenza.
In this portrait, he bears a miniature cross of the highest Parma award, Order of Constantin, which he received in 1833 (see our image nr.8).

Vincenzo Castelli (1789 Camerino - 1845 Loreto) was an Italian miniaturist, who, according to Schidlof, probably worked in Austria quite frequently. His works can be viewed in the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo in Pisa.
