Gregory John Signature Corals CleanChaeto Algae is aquacultured in a controlled environment allowing them to treat and quarantine it, reducing any risk of unwanted parasites or hitchhikers within the algae. Chaetomorpha algae is a green macroalgae that under the right conditions can grow pretty rapidly, and will consume nitrates and phosphates as it grows reducing the available amount of nutrients for unwanted algae to grow. The tangled spaghetti-like cluster of algae makes a perfect home for small beneficial benthic creatures like copepods, isopods, and amphipods. Many reefers utilize a refugium setting to grow the algae within the sump which makes harvesting and managing the growth a breeze. The other huge benefit growing CleanChaeto can be used for is to help moderate your aquarium's pH levels by utilizing a reverse photo-period from your display tank. Using Chaeto as a natural method of nitrate and phosphate control has been a proven method of managing your tank's nutrients without having to use any chemicals.

How To Add CleanChaeto to your Aquarium

Adding macroalgae is pretty easy and we highly suggest quarantining or at a minimum rinsing the algae with fresh saltwater before it is added to your tank. It will grow best in a dedicated refugium that has a moderate flow with a proper horticulture spectrum light like the Kessil H-series LED fixtures. We suggest starting with an 8-hour per day photoperiod, and adjusting the amount of light it receives as needed to maintain a rich green color and good growth.

PLEASE NOTE: Gregory John Signature Corals goes to great lengths to treat, quarantine and remove any unwanted parasites, hitchhikers, and other organisms from their macroalgae. However, they do not guarantee that it is completely and totally free of anything unwanted. This is because sometimes spores, eggs, etc. can remain viable but not visible, despite the strict quarantine procedure. As a result, we always recommend that you properly quarantine anything new that you are adding to your tank.
