Description

An absolutely glorious original 1950’s party/prom dress in a stunning black and white chiffon organza. The striking black floral lace design is not a print – this is textured velvet flocking, giving the illusion of extra depth. The style typifies the 50’s - oh so feminine and figure flattering – narrow form fitting bodice perfect to accentuate a narrow waist – with a twirling full skirt. No maker’s label remains but a vintage union tag confirms this dress was professionally made. No fabric contents label but this is a synthetic, likely nylon blend.

Note the special details on this wonderful dress – the shapely chiffon bodice with black satin piping decoration at both the neck and waistline, black satin spaghetti shoulder straps, adorable rear black satin bow and especially the wonderfully full chiffon skirt decorated with panels of black velvet flocked lace. There are four layers to the skirt – a base underskirt of ivory muslin to give the skirt extra body, an ivory satin acetate lining, followed by a single layer of white tulle, topped with the final layer of chiffon. Note the dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included.

*** Note this dress also comes with a rare matching fabric scarf/shawl, which is rectangular in shape and measures approximately 33.5" in length by 13.5" in width.

The dress closes down the centre back with a hidden metal zipper and fastener. The entire dress is lined in ivory satin acetate.

No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for a proper fit. As is, this is a small size which would likely best fit a modern size 4 or 6. However, there is additional room in the bodice seam allowances to let out approximately 1.5" to 2" in the bust.

*** Note also the matching shawl fabric could be used to significantly expand both the bust and waist if desired.

Condition

This dress is in excellent, virtually pristine condition. The chiffon fabric is still crisp with wonderful drape. Amazingly the flocking is still intact and I did not find any obvious worn spots. Even the skirt lining and underskirt are crisp and clean. If it was not for the slightest yellowing on the bodice lining in the underarm area, I would believe this dress had never been worn. No significant defects to note.

Returns

All items are sold as final sales, unless a significant flaw has inadvertently not been disclosed. I do my best to accurately describe every item and any significant flaws will be mentioned in the description. Of course it is possible to overlook something and if this occurs, please contact me as soon as possible and I will do my best to resolve the issue. I cannot accept returns for items that do not fit – measurements are taken carefully so please ensure that these match your own before bidding.

Please keep in mind that vintage items are not new, and as such are rarely in perfect condition. Unless otherwise stated, all items have been worn and show some degree of wear. Small imperfections are inherent in vintage garments and add character to the pieces.

Shipping

Unless otherwise requested, all Canadian and US shipments will be shipped airmail via Canada Post, which includes insurance up to $100. The shipping price below applies to Canada and US shipments only. I do not charge handling fees so all prices reflect actual mailing costs.

International bidders are welcome. International shipments will be priced on an individual basis and generally will be higher. If you would like an international shipping quote before bidding, please send me an email.

I will combine shipping for your convenience to reduce postage costs.
