Mexican Guerrero folk mask of Diablo the devil. Used for dance and display.

Enamel and gold paint over carved wood. Embedded rattle inside actual goat horns inserted into forehead.

Provenance: From my mother’s collection (passed away this year) She grew up in Mexico and Colombia. Moved to the States in 1958. She read the Aztec calendar and taught at the LA museum of natural history. Collected many interesting things. Family is keeping her pottery but some pieces are finding new homes.

Thanks for looking. Cesca.
