original antique color lithographed 1887 map of the island of Sumatra,
printed more
than 135 years ago.
- There is wonderful detail
throughout, with dozens
of place names, including the Strait of Malacca, Padang, Batak Lands,
Aceh (Atjeh), Sunda Strait, Pelambang, and Bangka (Banka).
- Topography is shown in relief, and the water areas are
tinted in a
delicate blue wash.
- The image area measures 24.5 x 17.3 cm [9¾" x
6¾"].

The map was drawn and engraved by William & Alexander Keith
Johnston and issued in the 9th edition of the Encyclopædia
Britannica, published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York,
in 1887.
- Condition: It is in excellent condition,
bright and clean, with no
marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the
