  • There is wonderful detail throughout, with dozens of place names, including the Strait of Malacca, Padang, Batak Lands, Aceh (Atjeh), Sunda Strait, Pelambang, and Bangka (Banka).


  • Topography is shown in relief, and the water areas are tinted in a delicate blue wash.


  • The image area measures 24.5 x 17.3 cm [9¾" x 6¾"].


  • The map was drawn and engraved by William & Alexander Keith Johnston and issued in the 9th edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica, published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, in 1887.
