The DPF or DPF is not a silencer but an important part of the emission control and cannot simply be installed, the vehicle must be brought to the manufacturer's standard before installing the new or remanufactured DPF. 

Failure to do so will void the warranty.

 

The FAP or DPF is not even a catalyst and, except for some types, it DOES NOT contain noble minerals, it is a pure "cordierite" or "silicon carbide" filter so it is impossible to malfunction if all the precautions have been taken and installed correctly.

For the following engines, in addition to the normal checks that must be carried out before mounting the FAP (as described above), the following precautions must also be taken:

 

BMW ENGINES:

  • disassemble and check the correct functioning of the EGR valve, even if the malfunction is not reported, it often happens that it is jammed (we recommend the replacement)

  • check that there are NO oil leaks from the turbo, as they could enter the exhaust pipes and damage both the catalyst and the FAP / DPF particulate filter.

  • check oxygen sensors

  • check the tuning of the ECU once the DPF is installed

  • if the turbo has been replaced, the catalytic converter in front of the DPF must also be replaced, since it is certainly damaged (in these cases it is advisable to ALWAYS change both parts, where both the DPF and the catalyst prior to the DPF are present, since the malfunctioning of the first piece will cause problems for the installed DPF; if the car has traveled more than 100,000 km, it becomes necessary, for the correct functioning of the restored or new FAP, to also check the status of the catalyst and pre-catalyst.
