Up for sale is a pristine pair of cast (pewter? aluminum?) American Eagle "1776" bookends made by the Philadelphia Mfg. Co. in Philadelphia, PA approx. 1960.  These bookends have been mine since I was a young boy in the early 1960s - I added some weight to the hollow interior some years ago by carefully removing the heavy card base, adding buckshot, & then finished the job with either hot glue, Elmer's or epoxy to secure the added weight before re- installing the base plates.

These will easily support the HEAVIEST books you own.  The pair weigh 9 lb., 3 oz. after having adding that extra weight, a big improvement over what they were originally.  I've used them to support a large number of large photographic books on railroading, but now that I'm set-up with bookends made from actual rail, these are surplus.

I first researched the other similar offerings on Ebay, so I can easily offer you the expectation of a perfect finish, no chips or cracks - in short, no surprises.  Note the original labels from PMC are intact on the felt bases, & like the rest of the pieces, they look new.  The photos are the best way to judge for yourself (they are slightly dusty, however which I noticed right after listing, of course).  In fact, with the holidays coming on fast, this is certainly an item that could truly be considered elegantly giftable!

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions - I'm glad to respond ASAP.  The pair will be properly packed for quick shipment to your door - plus, they come from a smoke-free, pet-free home.....

Thank you for looking!😀
