THERMAL PROTECTION ELEMENT FOR A SOVIET SPACESUIT OR OTHER OUTER SPACE EQUIPMENT

The item announced here is the part of the thermal protection shell for a Soviet spacesuit for spacewalk or other equipment designed for use in outer space. This complex shape element, measuring about approximately 11x15" (290x380 mm), contains several layers of thin metal foil inside to ensure minimal heat transmission. The outer side is covered with the strong nylon layer for mechanical protection, and the inner side has a thinner nylon lining. This structure makes it possible to protect the elements of a spacesuit or other equipment from heating when on the sunny side of the orbit, or to prevent large heat losses when in the Earth's shadow. The outer layer has special loops along its perimeter for tying to other elements of the thermal protection shell.

Provenance. This multilayered heat-protective element has been taken from retired spacesuit tester who worked at the famous NPP "Zvezda" - the manufacturer of all Soviet and Russian spacesuits and life support systems for cosmonauts and military pilots. This item may had been used as part of ground tests of space equipment, which were carried out by NPP Zvezda.

Possible use today. Besides a simple display in a museum, this item can be used as a visual aid for master classes or other training programs for schoolchildren or students of engineering and technical courses, especially for the tactile sensation of its multilayer rustling structure. Or, for its intended purpose, as a thermal protection element of a spacesuit or other space equipment.

Condition - perfect. The thermal protection element is in excellent condition, slightly faded, but mechanically intact, retaining its multilayer structure.
