This great antique Tibetan ceremonial mask features on of the Tibetan tutelary demons. It shows the signs of having been worn in the Cham, the dance performed in Tibet in colorful brocade costumes and and elaborate masks such as this one.  The dance is considered an act of cleansing of evil forces is influenced by the tantric traditions of Tibet.  The mask is 10.75" tall x 8,5" wide x 6" deep.  The interior of the mask shows the patina suggestive of frequent use.  The mask has some chipping to the paint that does is much effect its appearance. I think it dates to c.1940.
