Here we have an Antique SEWILL, LIVERPOOL Gentlemen's Gilt-Brass Aneroid Barometer Altimeter w/ Case.  John Sewill of 61 South Castle Street, Liverpool, England was a famed watch and chronometer maker employed by the Royal Navy throughout the 1870’s.  He was designated “Maker to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty”.  The dial is marked at the bottom with the maker info. The instrument is in Very Good 'used instrument' working condition with some wear to the brass finish and a missing bow ring (see pics) and passed the 'plastic bag test'.  The revolving altimeter ring works. The beveled-edge crystal is in very good condition with no nicks. The top crown is good but it missing the bow ring.  The red Moroccan leather case has only very minor wear on the outside and has a very good working push-button catch. It has a good hinge.  The dark green felt and satin fabric are in very good condition.  Barometer is 1-7/8" in diameter.   A nice Early working barometer for your collection !!
