Het doel van de ontwikkeling is om de remprestaties te verbeteren ten opzichte van de originele remschijf. EBC gebruikt HPSR-staal met een laag koolstofgehalte met een 18% hogere wrijvingscoëfficiënt. Dit staal is veel beter bestand tegen corrosie dan gietstaal. Bovendien is het gehele oppervlak beschermd met een 3 micron dikke laag zink, die tijdens het remmen in het gebied van het contactvlak van de remblokken afslijt. Alleen vanuit dit deel van het oppervlak kan tijdens de lange levensduur lichte roest ontstaan.
De remschijven zijn geboord in Vogelschwingendesign om zo min mogelijk gaten te krijgen en tegelijkertijd de reiniging van de remschijf met regenwater en remstof te optimaliseren. Hoe minder gaten er zijn geïnstalleerd, hoe beter het remmen op nat wegdek en hoe minder slijtage.
