This is a historic and charming Antique Old 19th c. American Southern Folk Art Oil Painting Portrait on canvas, depicting the portrait of a young brunette woman. The holds onto the railing of wooden steps leading up to a large wrap around porch and is surrounded by woodland and tree branches. She is depicted wearing a white lace dress, signifying virtue, and has a red linen shawl draped behind her arm. She appears shy and looks away from the viewer's gaze. Signed and dated in the lower left corner: "N.M. Burke 1895." I could not find any information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? An old framer's label on the verso reads: "Artist and Painter's Supply...Washington D.C." This piece likely originates from either Virginia or Maryland, which border Washington D.C. There is also a chance that this may portray a wealthy young woman who resides in the nation's capital. Approximately 18 1/2 x 25 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 15 x 22 inches. Very good condition for 100+ years of age, with some minor paint loss at the lower edge of the canvas, and light scuffing and edge wear to the original period gilded frame (please see photos.) Acquired in Los Angeles, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
