This is an enchanting and fine Vintage Old California Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, by seldom seen and early Hemet, California Impressionist landscape painter, Benton "Ben" S. Brady (1914 - 2009.) This work depicts a lovely early mornign landscape scene, with delicately painted eucalyptus trees, and several old buildings in the distance. Sandy desert hills are visible in the distance, with a patch of clear blue azure sky peeking out behind them. The setting of this painting is likely the California high desert, and possibly Hemet. Signed: "Ben Brady" in the lower right corner. This piece likely dates to the 1950' - 1960's. Approximately 27 1/4 x 31 1/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 20 x 24 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the original period frame (please see photos.) Acquired from an old collection in Pasadena, California. BENTON BRADY OBITUARY

HEMET BENTON S. BRADY 1914 ~ 2009 Born Feb. 21, 1914, to parents Benton S. Brady Sr. and Erma Singleton Brady in El Paso, Texas. His family moved to So. California in 1921. Ben attended Glendale schools and graduated from USC in 1936. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha and Alpha Delta Sigma fraternities. He was student manager of the Daily Trojan newspaper and remained a lifelong USC football fan. Ben was a civilian specialist in the Air Force, in the field of advanced navigation, weather and meteorology. His work was published in theatres of combat around the globe. In the field of advertising, he managed large accounts such as the Salvation Army and Union Pacific Railroad. He later found success as an artist, winning awards in Burbank and Hemet Art Associations. He had an avid interest in trains and train travel and was a strong supporter for the preservation of the historic Hemet Depot. He was married to Phyllis Schneider until her death in 1980. Ben later met and married Katherine Hallock and they moved to Hemet where she passed away in 2001. Ben had a creative mind that produced a wealth of ideas. Most recently he wrote skits and directed performances for his friends at the Valley Christian Home in Hemet. Ben died on Wednesday, Oct. 28. He leaves behind his loving companion, Iris Leiter, who was always at his side; Marcia Finders and her husband Ken of Livermore. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemet. He donated his body to Loma Linda University School of Medicine and Anatomy for research. Ben liked to encourage people to follow their dreams and he was supportive in their efforts. He will be remembered for his love of friends and family.
