This is a nicely done and early Antique Vintage American Old West WPA Cowboy Horse Oil Painting on artist board, depicting a 19th century Southwestern scene of a cowboy on horseback comforting a small boy. A small hotel can be seen in the distance, and an old dog is seen sleeping on the wooden walkway to the right of the image. This iconic image is from the ending of the 1953 Hollywood Western movie, Shane, starring Alan Ladd. Signed illegibly: "Russell (?)" in the lower right corner. I could not figure out the last name of this artist, but perhaps you recognize him or his work? This piece is possibly an original illustration art painting that was used in a pulp fiction magazine of the 1940's - 1950's. Approximately 16 x 20 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 12 x 16 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light spots of yellowing in the right corner of the image. Original period frame has mild scuffing and edge wear. Acquired from an Old West Antiques collection in Palm Springs, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
