This is a very fine and fascinating Antique Old Early 19th c. American Folk Art Woman Portrait Bust Wood Carving, depicting a finely carved portrait bust of a traditionally dressed early 19th century woman, with a bonnet and lace collar. The woman's facial expression is very demure and lifelike, with soulful and inquisitive eyes. This piece likely dates to the 1820's - 1830's and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the bottom, there are remnants of an old wooden base, which may have been added a long time after the artwork's creation. Approximately 10 1/4 inches tall x 7 inches deep x 9 inches wide. Good condition for centuries of age and exposure to the elements, with significant wood splitting, scuffing, and edge wear throughout (please see photos.) Acquired from an old estate in Los Angeles County, California, but I suspect that this piece originates from the Northeastern United States.
