Antique, 7” Late 19th c. Butter Plate
A unique 3-piece design!

Here’s a Victorian treat for your table! This large, 7” butter server was likely a product of the mid-to-late 19th Century! Featuring a base with four ornate feet made from the Greek Anemoi, or gods of wind, an insert to keep your butter separate from your ice, and a lid with an ornate stamped design and heavy finial, this piece has Victorian charm abound!

This piece features a “butter cooler” insert, an invention of the 1850s to prevent contact between the butter and the ice! These became more ornate in the later 1800s, likely bounding this item as being made between 1855 and 1875. The piece is stamped on the base “700”

Condition:

This set is in VERY GOOD condition! The butter dish retains its original patina, which has not been modified, giving it a fantastic, worn-in look that accentuates the pattern. Polishing the patina off might expose base metal, as it is worn in places, and is not advised unless you desire to re-plate the piece.

Measurements (approx):

Max diameter: 7 in
Height: 6 in
