Lot of 5 1943-1953 crochet books full of fun little details!

1. BATHROOM BEAUTIES: Decorative Crochet for Bath Towels, Guest Towels, Face Cloths by Clark’s/J. & P. COats #265. Copyright 1950. Patterns include water lily (shown on cover), cherries, poinsettias, hearts, flowers, wreaths, bows, daisies, multiple monogram options, gold fish, and penguins (shown on back cover).

Two-staple binding is intact. Very good condition for its age — some very minor damage seen on first 1/3 of books on bottom margin (under the 10-cent mark on the front cover). No observed rips or tears.

2. STAR POTHOLDERS. American Threads Company Star Book #55, 1947. Two-staple binding is intact, but the front and back covers have rips. This is a quirky collection of hostess-themed line art illustrations, post-war dishes to serve at dinner parties, and whimsical novelty potholders that tie in thematically. For example, the Crab Meat ai Gratin recipe is placed next to sample photos for the fish and crab potholders. Additional potholder patterns include bee, butterfly, peach, Star aw berry, pear, apple, maple leaf, acorn, tree (with garland), panties (!!), slip (yes, the garment you wear under a dress!), dress, thorn rose, poppy, daisy, cookie jar, teapot, plate, pocketbook, Scotch plaid cap, pinwheel (2 designs), “Navajo” potholder, log cabin, “Indian Circle,” checked, plaid. So much fun to look through!

3. HOME FAVORITES IN CROCHET, Clark’s #214, 1944. Note that this was bound at time of manufacture with a single staple (not unusual for paper goods of this vintage) and that the bottom right corner has ripped on many pages. Back cover shows additional damage, though pattern instructions are intact throughout.

4. BEDSPREADS TO KNIT AND CROCHET #6085, 1942, Spool Cotton Company. Variety of patterns for bedspreads. Cover is loose from the internal pages and has a rip at the bottom. Interior pages look solid. Includes advertising and patterns for runners, doilies, antimacassars (chair back, arm rests), swirl bedspread (shown in photos), curtains, tablecloths, filet centerpiece, “decorative glass jackets,” Irish crochet, dresser set, circular rug, bathroom rug.

5. SUGGESTIONS FOR FAIRS AND BAZAARS, Star Book #98. Technicolor cover! Some splitting of pages along bottom 2” of spine, where there is also some discoloration. Fabulous 50’s line drawings in this 1953 booklet by American Thread Company. INcludes patterns for doilies, hot plate mats, pin cushions, pot holders, napkins holders, chair backs, and more. Fun trip in time!
