Gel models are maintenance-free batteries. This means that they do not require topping up the electrolyte. What speaks in their favor is a sealed housing and electrolyte in the form of gel. This guarantees that it will not leak, so the battery can be held in any position and is more resistant to shocks.

Longevity
One of the biggest advantages of gel batteries is their longevity. Of those available on the market, this type is characterized by the longest lifespan, as properly used they can last up to a dozen years. Importantly, gel batteries are also characterized by greater resistance to variable and extreme weather conditions. Automatic discharge (25°C) Gel batteries can be stored for up to many months without recharging. Their capacity drops to: - 91% after 3 months - 82% after 6 months - 64% after 9 months 

Selection of a gel battery
Suitable dimensions are not everything. When choosing a battery, you need to pay attention to its capacity - it should not be more than 110%, nor less than 90% of the capacity recommended for the device you plan to power. Also important is the output voltage, the value of which must also be very close to that recommended (+/-0.2 V).

Applications of gel batteries
Gel batteries are used in motorcycles, golf carts and lawnmowers, among other applications. They are also used in emergency power supplies, photovoltaic installations, alarm systems or electric toys. What's more, these batteries can be found in vehicles that have a large number of electrical devices, such as campers.
