Jersey Joe Walcott (born Arnold Raymond Cream, in Barbados) held the World Heavyweight Title in boxing from 1951-1952 at the age of 37, thus becoming the oldest person to win that title (until George Foreman in 1994). There is a bronze statue of him in his adopted home town of Camden, NJ. After retiring from boxing, he became a referee and was the controversial referee for the Muhammad Ali v. Sonny Liston fight in 1965.
