Description: A very nice example of the first printing of the first edition. SIGNED by the author to his friend, the Gloucester poet John Haines "To Jack and Dollie, with love from J - May 1933". Opposite the inscription John Haines has written in pencil "Rec'd from the author May 5th 1933 (before publication)". De La Mare was known to his friends as Jack.
Original green gilt cloth hardback in the original dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is not price-clipped, showing the original 7/6 price to the inside front flap. In very attractive condition with some chipping and a tear to the front cover (see pictures). The book itself is in excellent condition, with bright gilt titles. 7.5 inches by 5.25 inches. John Haines has annotated each of the poems with either a tick or a cross in pencil.
