Elie Bernadac (1913-1999), Vintage French Impasto Oil Painting, Spring Landscape, Church of Cricquebœuf, Normandy, Flowering Tree, Pond, Ivy, Signed

This striking vintage French impasto oil painting on panel depicts a spring landscape in Cricquebœuf, a small village in Normandy, on the Bay of Seine between Honfleur and Trouville-sur-Mer. A flowering tree and a pond are in the foreground. In the background is the church of Saint-Martin, also know as the “Chapelle aux Lierres”, or “Ivy Chapel”, as it is completely covered in ivy. The church, dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, has been listed as a French national Monument Historique since 1927. Marcel Proust mentioned it in his novel, “A l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleur”. The painting is signed “Bernadac”. The back is marked “Elie Bernadac. Artiste peintre. Villa Flore, 16, Avenue d’Anvers. Nice. L’église de Cricquebœuf, env. de Trouville”. Elie Bernadac (1913-1999), French painter born in Auch, in the Gascony region of southwestern France, studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. While living in Nice, he exhibited in Cannes, Nice and Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Today he is listed in numerous art databases and in the sold listings of various auction houses. 

Framed, this piece is in good condition with the exception of slight warping of the panel and slight signs of wear on the carved frame. This painting will be an authentic French addition to your décor or to your collection. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
