Luffa vines, also known as Sponge Gourd or Dishcloth Gourd, or Loofah. So many ways to describe these cool gourds!

The plant produces long, cylindrical fruits that, when mature, transform into natural sponges or dishcloths. Best grown on a very strong and sturdy fence or arbour. Vines are prolific, the yellow flowers attract pollinators. The fruits can be eaten fresh, and sauteed while still green or the fruit can be allowed to mature to be turned into your own bath loofahs once stripped of their skin. The internet is full of plenty of tutorials!

Planting Instructions:

Seed Depth - Plant the Luffa Cylindrica seeds about 1 inch deep in well-draining soil. Ensure the soil is rich in organic matter, preferably light, sandy loam. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Luffa plants thrive in full sunlight, so provide at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Expect germination within 7-14 days under optimal conditions. Allow sufficient space between plants, as Luffa Cylindrica vines can spread; aim for at least 6 feet between plants. Consider providing a trellis or vertical support for the vines to climb.

Harvest your Luffa Cylindrica when the fruits are still tender for culinary use, or let them mature for use as natural scrubbers.

One very cool use I have seen is slices of dried luffa sponge centered into soap molds with melted soap poured over them - to make scrubby soaps!

Seeds are hand collected and sorted and some smaller seeds may contain some chaff. This does not affect seed count. Seed size may vary; this is especially applicable to larger seeds like beans.
