Lizard 51/2023 Yes, Eric Clapton, Porter Band, Kim Nowak, Ninja Episkopat

  • We start, as always, from the concert section. This time we went to Katowice to see Soft Machine perform, and also twice to the Re club in Krakow to report on the concerts of Give Up The Failure, the band Ciśnienie, the Norwegians from Heave Blood & Die and Steve Gunn.

  • In Musical Sequelism, Francis Tuan looks at the premiere of the single Now And Then, perhaps the last musical find from The Beatles' circle.

  • They turned jazz inside out with one of the strongest albums of the year, All Thoughts Are Bad Thoughts. Arek Lerch talked not only about his famous debut, but also about the saxophonist of Ninja Episkopat, Alex Clov.

  • Marcin Ciupek talked to the band sneaky jesus, a leading representative of the young Polish jazz scene, about myths related to recording the second album, the importance of intuition in creating music and many other issues.

  • Lotto surprised everyone this year by releasing two albums in one day. On this occasion, Arek Lerch carefully questioned the band's guitarist, Łukasz Rychlicki.

  • After two successful albums and a rich year of concerts, the Tricity group Nene Heroine seems to be gaining momentum. Marcin Ciupek talked to the band's musicians about his passion for playing live and eclectic inspirations.

  • We have been waiting for Kim Nowak's new album for 11 years. Drummer Emade told Arek Lerch about why the break was so long and how the group currently perceives its place on the domestic market.

  • John Porter's arrival in Poland in the mid-1970s turned out to be a factor that significantly influenced Polish rock music. Konrad Wojciechowski talks about the breakthrough album Helicopters by the Porter Band in an extensive article.

  • Our series of "single-disc" albums has no intention of stopping. This time, Piotr Chlebowski presents the Californian group Stack.

  • We also visit California on the occasion of another regular "Lizard" column - American Dream. The history of the very interesting, yet somewhat forgotten band The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band is refreshed by Marcin Ciupek.

  • The 25th anniversary of Gusstaff Records is an ideal opportunity to recall its achievements. Mateusz Sroczyński conducts a subjective review of the albums of the cult label.

  • In his regular In Concert series, Bartosz Leśniewski presents the second portion of the most interesting albums recorded live by The Allman Brothers Band.

  • This album still divides progressive rock fans, which makes it an interesting subject of discussion. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its first release, Piotr Chlebowski discusses the album Tales From Topographic Oceans by Yes in an extensive essay.

  • Roger Dean was Yes's court artist for many years. Piotr Chlebowski, as if supplementing the previous text, presents the artistic concept of the cover of Tales From Topographic Oceans, designed by an English painter.

  • He played, among others, in the Flanger band, being one of the most important representatives of the electronic scene of the 1990s. Jacek Socała presents Bernd Friedmann's profile.

  • In the new series Northern Wind, devoted to Scandinavian rock music of the 1960s and 1970s, Anna Zalewska looks at the achievements of the Finns from the group Tasavallan Presidentti.

  • Melodic, guitar-driven indie-rock has had various heroes in recent years, and one of them is Miles Kane. Paweł Mądry discusses the British artist's album achievements.

  • Swedish rock from past decades remains a phenomenon that is still too poorly recognized in our country. We hope that this will be changed by Paweł Pałasz's article, which thoroughly describes seven albums related to local music, from the 1960s to the 1980s. (including the achievements of the groups Samla Mammas Manna and Kultivator).

  • The review section in this issue has expanded significantly, we have prepared reviews of as many as 40 albums for readers (including Steven Wilson, Peter Gabriel, Jaimie Branch, Lotto, Neil Young, Weather Report, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Lech Janerka) and three books (memoirs of Nancy Barile, biographies of Bob Dylan and the band Vader).

  • In the regular columns you will find - as usual - texts by Filip Baczyński (Polski jazzgot) and Damian Bydliński (Lostland).

  • This time, the Yes group takes over the buyer's guide. Marcin Ciupek is trying to systematize her achievements.
