Lizard 51/2023 Yes, Eric Clapton, Porter Band, Kim Nowak, Ninja Episcopate

  • We start, as always, from the concert department. This time we went to Katowice for a Soft Machine performance, as well as twice to the Krakow club Re to report on the concerts of Give Up The Failure, the band Treszenie, the Norwegians from Heave Blood & Die and Steve Gunn.

  • In A Musical Sequelism, Francis Tuan watches the premiere of the single Now And Then, perhaps the last musical find from The Beatles.

  • They turned jazz the other way, recording one of the strongest albums of the year, All Thoughts Are Bad Thoughts. Not only about his high-profile debut, Ninja Episcopate saxophonist Alex Clove was spoken by Arek Lerch.

  • Marcin Ciupek talked to sneaky jesus, a leading representative of the young Polish jazz scene about the myths associated with recording the second album, the importance of intuition in creating music and many other issues.

  • Lotto surprised everyone this year by releasing two records in one day. On this occasion, Arek Lerch thoroughly questioned the band's guitarist, Łukasz Rychlicki.

  • After two successful albums and a rich concert year, the Tri-City group Nene Heroine seems to be gaining momentum. Marcin Ciupek talked about his passion for live music and eclectic inspirations with the band's musicians.

  • We waited 11 years for the new Kim Nowak record. Why this break was so long and how the group now sees its place in its home market, drummer Emade told Ark Lerch.

  • The arrival of John Porter in Poland in the mid-1970s proved to be a factor that significantly influenced Polish rock music. Konrad Wojciechowski talks about the groundbreaking Porter Band Helicopters album in an extensive article.

  • Our 'single plate' cycle doesn't even think to stop. This time Piotr Chlebowski presents the California Stack group.

  • We also visit California on the occasion of another permanent "Lizard" column - American Dream. The story of a very interesting, but somewhat forgotten, band The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band is refreshed by Marcin Ciupek.

  • 25 years of Gusstaff Records is the perfect occasion to recall her legacy. Mateusz Sroczyński makes a subjective review of the albums of the iconic label.

  • Bartosz Leśniewski in his permanent cycle In Concert presents the second portion of the most interesting albums recorded live by The Allman Brothers Band.

  • This album still divides progressive rock fans today, making it an interesting subject to consider. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its first release, Tales From Topographic Oceans by Yes is discussed in an extensive essay by Piotr Chlebowski.

  • The court graphic designer of the Yes group for years has been Roger Dean. Piotr Chlebowski, as if in addition to the previous text, presents the artistic concept of the cover of Tales From Topographic Oceans, designed by the English painter.

  • He played, among others, in the band Flanger, being one of the most important representatives of the electronic scene of the 1990s. The silhouette of Bernd Friedmann is brought closer by Jacek Socła.

  • New in the quarterly North Wind, dedicated to Scandinavian rock music of the 1960s and 1970s, Anna Zalewska looks at the achievements of the Finns from the Tasavallan Presidentti group.

  • Melodic, guitar indie-rock has a variety of characters in recent years, one of which is Miles Kane. The British's record achievements are discussed by Paweł the Wise.

  • Swedish rock from past decades remains a phenomenon still too poorly recognizable with us. We hope this will change with an article by Paweł Pałasz, which thoroughly describes seven records from the music circle there, from the 1960s to the 1980s. (including Samla Mammas Mann and Cultivator).

  • The review section in this issue has grown considerably, for readers we have prepared reviews of as many as 40 albums (including Steven Wilson, Peter Gabriel, Jaimie Branch, Lotto, Neil Young, Weather Report, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Lech Janerka) and three books (memoirs of Nancy Barile, biographies of Bob Dylan and the Vader band).

  • As usual, in the permanent column columns you will find texts by Filip Baczyński (Polish jazzgot) and Damian Bydliński (Lostland).

  • The buyer's guide is occupied by the Yes group this time. Marcin Ciupek tries to systematize her achievements.
