The sculptor is J. Robert ("Bob") Black who was almost legendary in the art fair business. (died in 2012.) This is a very rare completely hand crafted decorative opera diva by the well known Ann Arbor, Michigan artist J. Robert Black. He is most famous for his "People Pots" which were vases or pots made to look like a wide range of humorous characters from Opera Divas and Hippies to Lawyers and Politicians.


J. Robert (Bob) Black statue is 18" tall and it humorously depicts the awesome Valkyrie Brünnhilde, belting out her Battle Cry solo in Wagner's epic "Ring Cycle" opera. Her fervor is undeterred by the wardrobe malfunction which reveals her right breast.

Such details of this piece. Her hands are clasped in front as she leans back to hits the high notes. It's sculpted from heavy, hard and dense stoneware clay. Her face is painted with red lips and cheeks and breast. It is in perfect condition for its age with absolutely no nicks, chips or cracks.
