Vintage Florsheim vented Shoe Tree pair

Marked 12 - 3, presumably for mens shoes. I am not sure if this corresponds to a size 12. If planning to use, please measure your shoes or existing shoe trees if you have any.
These measure 12" exactly and extend at least 3/4" longer when you turn the knob. I am not sure what the 3 stands for. At the widest point the trees are 3.75" across.
