Cognac Pellisson is a French liquor poster from circa 1920, by famous poster artist Leonetto Cappiello. It is a typically whimsical Cappiello design featuring the oversized keg of Cognac carried by the diminutive cloaked figure.

Cognac is a French type of Brandy that warms up the body. Cappiello has used the sunny color yellow as a reminder of warmth in the clothing of the central figure, as well as the text.

The Pellison Pere & Company was established in 1814, and not much is known about the company.
Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) was an Italian poster artist who worked in Paris. He is known for modernizing advertising design for the 20th Century. In Cognac Pellisson, Cappiello remains true to his signature style. The poster features a strong central image with a product that is larger than the figure. The image is set against a dark colored background, with minimal text and a touch of humor or whimsy. This innovation allowed for the advertising to be eye-catching and understood at a moments’ glance. It was ideal for the fast paced travel and attention of busy city life.
