A quilted jacket is a quilted cotton jacket or tank top.
A padded jacket, also known as a padded jacket, has a strong association with the USSR, but is not a Soviet invention. The first mention of cotton jackets as part of a uniform dates back to the period between 867 and 1025. Initially in Byzantium, and later in Flanders, in the territory of the modern Netherlands, Belgium and France.
Russia appreciated and adopted a simple and practical jacket, made it part of a soldier's uniform, it was called in the second half of the 19th century and before the beginning of the Soviet period - "teplushka". It is also known that the quilted jacket in its usual form was noticed and borrowed from Chinese workers at the very beginning of the 20th century, during the Russian-Japanese war. In the Russian tsarist army, quilted jackets in the form of winter uniforms were used by both ordinary soldiers and officers. Before the Second World War in the USSR, cotton jackets and trousers received a number of changes that improved the quality of materials, as well as replaced the loops with buttons. The jacket became the clothing of the great construction projects, in the Soviet Union the whole country was dressed in a padded jacket: the army, students, workers, prisoners, builders, drivers and other segments of the population.. During the Great Patriotic War, the quilted jacket rightfully became a true legend.

Having appeared at the end of the XIX century, the padded jacket on cotton wool became literally a symbol of the USSR. In it, our people fought, built, served time and launched rockets into space.
Warm, windproof and, most importantly, cheap. It was a classic quilted jacket–a quilted jacket stuffed with cotton.

It was approved for conscripts as a winter uniform back in 1931. Since then, it has been produced for 60 years without any changes. It was made of cotton with a cotton wool filling. To keep the cotton wool from sticking together, the jacket was wrapped with parallel stitches. The presence of additional pockets, straps on the back, buttons on the sleeves makes it very comfortable and practical to wear. A Soviet-era padded jacket. The fabric was made by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense and passed a number of tests. The fabric is cotton, especially durable. A soldier's jacket was worn for warmth under a greatcoat, sheepskin coat.
A padded jacket is a wonderful thing for daily use outside the city; it is warm, light and comfortable winter clothing
Why are these jackets called padded jackets?
The word "quilted jacket" consists of 2 Russian words: tight-fitting and warm.
The product has two patch pockets on the shelf, fastened with buttons. An adjustable strap is located at the back for a better fit. Buttons with air loops are sewn on the sleeves to fit the wrist. This will perfectly protect you from the cold and wind.

Sweatshirt is a brand of the Soviet era
Among other Russian and foreign liberals, ordinary Russian people are commonly called "quilted jackets". And what to take from them, a quilted jacket is a quilted jacket. But the meek Russian people are not offended by these words, believing that their opponents simply do not know what a quilted jacket is. After all, this is not just a quilted jacket, it is the most popular and democratic winter clothing in the world, which has saved millions of lives in the cold. There are so many different names for this practical, comfortable and warm clothing. Something similar to a hoodie existed several centuries ago. Then, in the cold season, knights wore sewn shirts and chain mail under their armor, consisting of several layers of fabric, thus escaping frostbite, and in hot countries from overheating.
An ordinary quilted jacket is an upper quilted garment known to all residents of Russia, as well as to the peoples of many countries that were previously part of the USSR or the Russian Empire. The Soviet authorities saw the quilted jacket as the ideal clothing, functional for both work and war. In 1932, padded jackets actually became the uniform of the builders of the White Sea Canal.

In the 1930s, padded jackets began to appear in cinemas. For example, in the cult film Chapaev, Anka and Petka flaunt quilted jackets, thereby demonstrating the "versatility" of these clothes.

The Great Patriotic War turned the jacket into a real cult, making it the clothes of the winners. The padded jacket proved itself especially well during the Second World War, when Soviet troops needed comfortable, and most importantly, warming clothes in winter, allowing them to move quickly and save them from the harsh Russian frosts. Of course, the state also had to provide clothing for its soldiers. Hoodies in this case turned out to be the simplest, fastest and most warming solution.
