Photograph Notes: This information board is located on the sea bank, overlooking the saltmarsh at Frampton Marsh. The notice board says: Frampton Marsh is a fantastic place to see birds of prey all year round. During summer, marsh harriers nest in the area and hobbies hunt over the wetland. If you are lucky, you might see a Montagu's harrier, Britain's rarest breeding bird of prey. A handful of pairs nest on the saltmarsh and farmland around The Wash. Winter brings with it some amazing birds of prey. Peregrines patrol the saltmarsh and are often responsible for disturbing the huge flocks of wading birds that you regularly see wheeling above the shoreline. You could glimpse a merlin, brown and fast, darting across the marsh in pursuit of meadow pipits and skylarks, whilst short-eared owls scour the saltmarsh for small mammals. Hen harriers also spend the winter on The Wash - the males are stunning with their silver plumage. Barn owls, kestrels and sparrowhawks make regular appearances, and keep an eye out for rarer visitors such as ospreys and red kites.
