Boasting incredibly high production values and beautiful colors (at a time that predated the slick look of computer coloring), Pathways to Fantasy has stories of sword and sorcery, goblins and elves, witches, and mythological creatures. Fables and fairy tales all fit comfortably between the covers of this beautiful publication. With stories by Bruce Jones, Christina Rossetti, April Campbell, and Jeff Jones. And art by Barry Windsor-Smith, Jeffrey Jones, John Bolton, Lela Dowling, and Scott Hampton. It’s an anthology from independent publisher Pacific Comics, focusing on high fantasy and showcasing some of the top fantasy artists in comics at the time. Fantasy stories include; Stalking, Goblin Market, A Night to Remember, Hunger, & Oh What A Lovely Estate Have We!

Goblin Market (composed in April 1859 and published in 1862) is a narrative poem by Christina Rossetti. The poem tells the story of Laura and Lizzie who are tempted with fruit by goblin merchants.

A naked woman bathes in a pool by a nearby cursed castle. Suddenly she is wisked away by a enchanting man on a horse. They fall in love. But the man’s wife, who is a powerful witch from the cursed castle, is not happy about the affair and transforms the man into a giant spider.  

  

Oh What a Lovely Estate We Have”   2 pages

A young priviliged girl named Christina (Medusa), cursed with the ability of turning people to stone, recounts the time when she first removed the “protected” bandages from her head and turned her own family to stone. And thus the monstrous, snake-haired Medusa is unleashed.
