If you've been to Graceland, you know that The King had a dedicated jungle theme room he used to record, entertain, and hang out.  It had wood paneled walls, green shag carpeting, and many hand carved wood pieces to complete the decor.  The Jungle Room included work by iconic mid-century wood artist William Westenhaver, who created, in addition to ornate hand-carved furniture pieces, whimsical "tiki" sculptures such as this cat.  This piece is inspired by his work for Witco, and although it's similar and often mistaken for Witco (I'm told by the current Witco artists), it is not.  Still, this Tom is a very special throwback to a very specific mid-century style.  It is hand carved rough-hewn wood, most likely durable cedar, richly and elegantly grained. This particular Tom is in very fine vintage condition, a tomcat only in that he has seen a couple of tussles, most noticeably at his chipped right ear and toe, that do not detract from his overall charm.  He stands apx. 14 1/2" tall and 6" wide at his felt-covered base.  He is a rare find and a beauty - and in the market for a vintage jungle room to call his own.
