The first English edition of Lawrence's sensual, posthumously published final novel: it bears the publisher's note: "This novel lacks the author's final revision, and has been printed from the manuscript exactly as it stands.” …
Octavo hardback, around 4.5 inches by seven tall (c 130 mm x 195 mm if you prefer), is bound in its publisher’s worn but original chocolate brown cloth. Tilting is all original gilt.
First English edition published by Martin Secker, Number Five John Street, Adelphi, London, 1930. Provenance: from pencil inscription dated c 1942 to flyleaf; free from further permanent inscription and markings to the text.
Although interior condition is overall good, because this original letterpress book is old, it does display minor signs of use and age — such as the usual minor markings and discolouration to old paper — consistent with a printed object of this vintage. All 192 pp main text are complete and otherwise correct.
